A Real Post

Ok, so I havent been to forthcoming on the blogging front! Well, here it is. the long awaited (I like to lie to myself!) post on assorted stuff!

So The main thing in my life at the moment? Prac.
I'm at A school, im not going to mention any names here for privacy reasons.
It's a state school, and in a lower socio-economic region of Brisbane. At first i was terrified, but resigned myself to getting on with the Job.

As I first arrived there I found that they did not do ANY sol-fa.. for people who dont understand this, dont worry... basically it means that everything they've trained me to do in music ed at uni for the last four years is useless here. so. first obstacle. Second one was that my supervising teacher hadnt had anything planned, so I had to pick the classes i would teach the next week first off. It was an interesting experience. But, each day as i readjusted my expectations, my horror wore off and I started getting into it.

Now Ive got 10 classes a week till the end of term (classes are 70min long) so thats a bit over 10 hours of teaching per week (full teaching load is 17 classes).
The more I teach at State Schools the more i appreciate them. I like the students because they have spirit. and the prissy uniforms and blazers of the college next door are getting on my nerves! they think theyre better than us! :P

Prac is a lot of work. never ever think teaching is a 9-3 job. if you do, you are dead inside. ponder your failings and lament.

The other thing that weighs heavily pon my mind.... what the hell is pon anyway? is it like a small lake? ... ahem.
Laura - my GF, left for Thailand on Friday. from there she goes to Europe, then to America. She'll be over there for around a year. which sucks. Like a hoover. with turbo. switched on. but yeh you get that!

Other than that, still keeping up apperacnces - Boys Brigade, Youth, Sunday School etc... nights are full, days are long! party hard!

etc etc.

More of my stunningly exciting adventures next time!

SAM

Sounds like you're doing well, and learning quickly. And being a productive member of society. Good on ya.

Heh... didn't realize you had a girlfriend. (though I acknowledge it's not really something you blog about) Yay for you guys. pity she's going away though.

Wow, you're alive! And with a posting frenzied-vengeance :) I've heard the same thing about state school kids from some of my mates who were training to be teachers over here, eh. The kids appreciate your efforts more than in upper-class schools where they expect brilliance all the time and aren't so impressed by it.

Good to hear you're doin OK :)

Semper fi comrade! What we need is a workers revolution so that every school is a state school!

Girlfriends are good and the lack thereof is almost tautologically bad. Perhaps the absence of your girlfriend necessitates the presence of a Hoover, with turbo, turned on... sorry.
